My employer is being weird about the whole thing

I've been working at a small family run restaurant in Greene County for about three years, never had any issues, everyone knows everyone. Last month I was carrying a heavy stack of dishes to the kitchen and my foot slipped on some water near the dishwasher, came down hard on my knee and it's been swollen and painful ever since. The owners initially said don't worry about it, just go to urgent care and we'll figure it out. Now that I'm actually needing time off and physical therapy, they're getting weird and distant, not returning my texts and acting like I'm being dramatic about the whole thing. I even heard through the grapevine they told another employee I was probably faking it for time off. That really stung to be honest because I've been nothing but loyal to them. I've been looking into my options and reading up on how to handle it when your employer turns on you. I found some good information on Workers Compensation Attorney Law about what to do if your claim is disputed or if they try to retaliate. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but I'm not naive enough to think they won't try to protect themselves. Has anyone dealt with a situation where the boss was cool at first and then flipped once they realized it was going to cost them? I'm trying to decide if I should just get a lawyer now or wait and see if they do the right thing.
